Pleases & Thank You’s

This was a familiar refrain with Mom and probably with yours.
She wouldn’t let me get away without saying please and thank you.
Now my wife has assumed her mantle.
Please keep it up, ladies, because no doubt it is important to be polite, thank you!

But here’s another way of thinking about pleases and thank you’s.

“Our God is in heaven, He does whatever pleases Him” (Psalm 115:3, 135:6).   Whatever God has allowed to come your way, thank Him for it!

light darknessEven if it looks bleak or even dark and hopeless, “we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose” (Romans 8:28).

“My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience” (James 1:2-3).

Maybe you want soothing sun but thank Him for the gentle rain, and maybe He might include you in the just camp rather than the other one!

The answer to the final test—and any interim test—is to seek God’s will and not your own.

God, I want to please you.   Please do as you please.   Thank you!
